Behind the great and beautiful appearance and high-quality knife is the name of Ichiro Hattori. From 800 years of land molded by history to the forging of knives; Seki City Gifu Prefecture Japan.

Famous through the years because these is where the big names of cutlery and craftsmen started, the makers of Masahiro, Masamoto, Misono, and Iseya.

Ichiro Hattori was born in a family of knife maker in fact his father is the owner of Masahiro which is founded in 1932 and here he started his journey in the industry at the age of 18.

Hattori Hamono K.K. (Hattori Cutlery Co., Ltd.) was founded in 1971, his own knife business a proof of his dedication on making knives.

Hattori’s Work

Ichiro Hattori began marketing his own brand in 1993 using a wide variety of steels to finish a knife with quality and beautiful appearance that conquer the world.

He also began to explore and start to use VG10, powder steels (3G (SGPS) and Cowry-X) and Nickel stainless Damascus.

Aside from producing outside knife and hunting knife he also manages to make cooking knives.

All of his works bring him all the appreciation and fame, he got the tittle of being the World’s Best Knife Craftsman, Excellent Skilled Craftsman Award and in 2010 an award of Contemporary Master Craftsman and Outstanding Knife Making Technician are given. Here are some of his works throughout the years.

In 1970 Peter Kershaw made a contract with Ichiro Hattori’s to make knives for his company in the U.S., wherein he produces the Kershaw 10×0 series of fixed blades like Deerhunter, Elkhunter, Moosehunter series as well as the classic 1050 Folding Field, Model 1070 Trooper and Special Agent daggers.

In 1983 when Browning also contracted Ichiro Hattori to make their Sportsman series and folding hunting knives such as 3718, 506 and 3816 Double Edged Damascus Hunter knife.

In 1986-2005 Ichiro Hattori made the S1 and S2 bowies. This becomes a collectible that result to a high demand. He also produces a commemorative knife marketed by Boker in Europe.

The collaboration with different companies such as Parker, Beretta, Al Mar Knives, Katz, Junglee, Jet-Aer Corp (G96 brand), Tekna, Valor Corp Miami, and The Cutlery Shoppe’s Gryphon brand.

As it continues Ichiro Hattori OEM work with other company’s such as Fallkniven of Boden Sweden, Sanmai Mai III knives for Cold Steel Inc. of Ventura California, and Cowry-X Damascus Anthony L Marfione (Microtech).

There are three series of Cooking knives that Ichiro Hattori has made. This are KD Series Cowry-X Nickel Stainless Damascus, HD Series VG10 Nickel Stainless 63-layer Damascus and FH Series VG10 Special Cocobolo. There is also some Japanese type such as Wabouchou, and Nenox series.

KD30 Series

a hunter knife forged and hand crafted by Ichiro Hattori with two different line such as KD30-Miyabi and KD30-Hana. The Miyabi length to 11.3 and the blade length is 6 while the Hana with smaller length of 10.25 and the blade length is 5.25.

Made of Cowry-X developed by Daido Steel Company that contains 30% carbon, 20% Chromium and can be hardened to HRc 65-68. Designed with Damascus forged of 30-layer Nickel, and 30 layers of 429j2 stainless to each side.

KD30-104

Belong to the KD30 Series made of Cowry-X and Damascus Steel while the handle is made of Cocobolo. This length 22.8 cm
